Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) and Individual Education Plan (IEP)

An Individual Education Plan (IEP) is developed for each student served under special education.  This IEP is developed by a team, including the student (if appropriate), his/her parent, teachers and administrators.  The annual IEP is created based on the student's Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP).

IEP or ARD meetings are held at least annually to review progress and develop a new plan.  Parent participation is vital to this process.  In addition to annual meetings, parents or teachers may request to meet at other times throughout the school year.

What is transition planning?

Schools help all students prepare for their future. If a student has a disability and receives special education services, there is a process called transition planning included in the Individualized Education Program (IEP) by the time students reach age 14. This process can help students decide what they want for their future and figure out the steps they can take to meet their goals.
