    Mrs. Centeno currently serves as LAE’s elementary school principal. She became our elementary school principal after serving five years as an assistant principal, and one year as a principal intern. She has been with the school since its inception in 2006, teaching 3rd grade math during the first two years and acting as the sole assistant principal for the next two. With the opening of the ECC in 2010, she was tasked with ensuring the successful establishment of that site before moving to our Jefferson campus when it opened for 2012-13. Since that time she has served as our elementary school principal. Prior to joining the LAE staff, she worked in Dallas ISD as a 4th grade math teacher and as a high school Spanish teacher at Ursuline Academy.


    Mrs. Centeno enjoys being with her family, traveling to Puerto Rico, playing volleyball and dancing.

    Mr. Hernandez currently serves as the elementary assistant principal. His primary responsibilities include school discipline, test coordinator, scheduling and assisting the principal in the supervision of teachers. Prior to joining the LAE staff in 2015 as an assistant principal, Mr. Hernandez worked in the Dallas ISD for 6 years. He served as a teacher, department chair, LPAC Chair, and mentor teacher.


    Mr. Hernandez is a native Texan and frequently visits his family in El Paso. He enjoys traveling in his free time. He's an avid supporter of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers.

    Ms. Panicker has served as LAE’s Curriculum Coordinator/Instructional Coach (K-2) since 2015. Her primary responsibilities include providing leadership in the ongoing development, improvement, and evaluation of curriculum, instruction, professional development, and student assessments. Prior to her role as a Coordinator, she served as the Elementary School Assistant Principal for 3 years. Prior to joining the LAE staff, she worked in Dallas ISD for 6 years as a teacher.


    In Ms. Panicker’s free time, she enjoys teaching dance cardio classes, working out, spending time with family and friends, and traveling.

  •  Kelly Whitfield

    Ms. Whitfield currently serves as the 3rd – 4th Grade and Middle School Electives Curriculum Coordinator and Instructional Coach. She has been at La Academia de Estrellas since 2013. Her primary responsibilities include providing leadership in the ongoing development, improvement, and evaluation of curriculum, instruction, professional development, and student assessments. Prior to joining the LAE staff, Ms. Whitfield served as a teacher in Arizona for 9 years. This year, 2018-2019, will be her 18th year in education.


    Ms. Whitfield was raised in El Paso but moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1997. She enjoys traveling and visiting her family, who still lives in Phoenix.

    Mrs. Havard has served as the elementary school social worker since 2007, and she has served as the truancy prevention coordinator (TPC) since 2017. Mrs. Havard's primary responsibilities include planning, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive program of guidance to elementary students, including counseling services, short-term crisis, positive behavior, and outcome-oriented interventions. Mrs. Havard conducts regular classroom guidance lessons with each class and every elementary student in the school regarding decision-making skills, feelings, interpersonal relationships, communication skills, conflict management, anti-bullying, problem-solving, and personal safety. As the TPC, Mrs. Havard regularly monitors student absences and organizes meetings to address truancy concerns. Prior to joining the LAE staff in 2007 as a school social worker, Mrs. Havard worked as a medical social worker at an area nursing home and as an investigator for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.


    Mrs. Havard is married to Jill, and they have three dogs. She likes to spend time with her family and friends and enjoys traveling and camping in their RV. Camping, fly-fishing, hiking, listening to music, and watching sports are among her favorite pastimes.
