  • Arrival

    Doors will open at 7:10 a.m. 2nd– 8th grade students eating breakfast will report directly to the cafeteria and eat between 7:10 a.m. and 7:35 a.m. Once they have eaten breakfast, they must report directly to their designated area in the gym. Students will stay seated until dismissed to class. 1. Kinder - 1st grade students will sit outside their classroom door in their respective hallway, Kinder and 1st grade teachers will walk students to the cafeteria at 7:40 to eat breakfast. Students will be released to their advisory class at 7:40 a.m. This is not a transition period. Students must go directly to class- not stop for water or restroom. Students reporting after 7:45 a.m. must enter through the front entrance accompanied by a parent to receive a tardy pass. All backpacks will be left at the front entrance.

    Dismissal

    At the end of the day, students must follow their teacher to their dismissal area. Students with younger siblings will report to their youngest sibling’s classroom. All other middle grades students will report to their designated room. Students are not permitted to stay after school unless they, themselves, are participating in an extracurricular activity such as: athletics, clubs, music, etc. Staying after school hours to assist a staff member is not permitted. Students are not permitted to stay on campus to wait for siblings or car pool members to dismiss from an after school activity. Parents must complete an official Walk Home Permission Form for students to be able to walk home after school. This form is available in the reception desk. All school rules apply during dismissal time. Students must remain quiet to listen for dismissal information.

  • A. Compulsory Attendance

    Under Texas Education Code 25.093, Absences of ten (10) or more days, or parts of days, within a six- month period in the same school year or three (3) or more days, or parts of days, within a four-week period is considered truant. A student absent without permission from school; from any class; from required special programs, such as additional special instruction (termed “accelerated instruction” by the state) assigned by a grade placement committee; or from required tutorials will be considered in violation of the compulsory attendance law.

    B. Attendance for Class Credit

    To receive credit in a class, a student must attend at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered. A student who attends at least 75 percent, but fewer than 90 percent, of the days the class is offered, may receive credit for the class if he or she completes a credit recovery plan that allows the student to fulfill the instructional requirements for the class. If a student attends less than 75 percent of the days a class is offered or does not complete an approved Credit Recovery Plan, the student will lose credit for that class and/or will not be advanced to the next grade level. All absences, both excused and unexcused, count against the 90% attendance rule.

  • The school's rules of conduct and discipline are established to maintain order in the school. Full compliance of the students and parents/guardians is expected.

  • Our 2019-2020 student application will be available January 31st.

    Pre-kindergarten applicants must meet at least one of the state of Texas pre-kindergarten eligibility criteria to be admitted.

PTO

The LAE PTO meets regularly during the school year at our Kiest location. The PTO includes parents and staff who want to improve learning for all students. Our PTO works together with the school staff to sponsor numerous schoolwide events, including Family Fun Nights, Daddy/Daughter & Mommy/Son Dances and Student Performances. In addition, the PTO sponsors various service projects, including Thanksgiving baskets and holiday gift assistance for families in need.
